Tip of the Week

Dogs are extremely in-tune with your energy. It is instinctual for your dog to read your energy. They were born deaf and blind, so they learn their mother’s scent and respond to the energy around them. Ever notice when you are stressed, your dog seems stressed or anxious as well? Or when something exciting is happening, they have a lot of energy? Dogs respond to the environment around them. When something is wrong, the tend to be able to sense that and will act accordingly.

One way to keep your dog calm is to exercise and stretch. Include your dog in your routine to wear him or her out as well! Your dog will be happy to spend time with you and will enjoy “playing”. A happy dog is a happy owner. Leash Your Fitness provides a friendly, safe, and structured environment for exercising both you and your dog. At the end of the day, by calming yourself, you will be calming your dog.

It’s that time of year when having a barbecue is a good idea, especially with how spectacular the weather has been lately. Bringing your dog to a barbecue is a great idea! It gives your dog the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and humans. You might think you aren’t harming your dog by offering him or her a scrap of leftovers, but it can have some severe consequences!

Dogs don’t have the same digestive systems as we do. Many of the foods we love to eat can make your dog ill, causing symptoms such as diarrhea or vomiting. These foods are usually high in sugars, salt, or fat. Other foods, such as chocolate, macadamia nuts or onions (popular barbecue foods!) contain chemicals which can be deadly to dogs. Before you think about sneaking your dog a piece of your food from under the table, consult with your veterinarian or do your research! Keep your dog safe and healthy by only feeding it an appropriate diet.

Thanks!

Do you want to take a vacation this summer, but can’t finalize plans because you don’t know what to do with your dog? There are many cool, pet-friendly accommodations to save you from your unrealized vacation plans! It might be really hard to leave your dog behind, but often they are on a doggy vacation as well when you leave them at one of the many cool pet accommodations that are available!

The simplest, and perhaps the least expensive  solution would be to ask a friend or neighbor to puppy-sit, just make sure that they are responsible. Also, leave all of the contact information for your vet, any meds that fido is on and any other pertinent information just in case anything happens while you are away. Having a familiar face watch your dog will minimize separation anxiety for  both you and your dog, especially if they can stay at your house.  There are also companies that come out and walk your dog, give them their meds and make sure they are ok, we have a few in San Diego listed on our partners page. Most respected pet resorts are equipped with a certified and highly capable  staff. These doggy hotels will usually feature several amenities to ensure the comfort of your canine companion. Markim Pet Resort features individual and family dens for you dogs, as well as large exercise runs, a large field, and a staff that makes their resort “the next best place to home.”

Everybody deserves to get away every once in awhile. You shouldn’t let your love for your dog get in the way of your vacation plans. There are several options available to take care of your dog! Look around, and choose the option you are most comfortable with!  Happy Summer!

Ugly Dog Contest

The Ugly Dog Contest was fun!  I got so many treats and met a lot of crazy looking dogs.  There were even dogs dressed up for St. Pattys Day.  I am so happy my mommy doesn’t dress me up in clothes—I don’t even like wearing my collar and leash!

Enjoy the pics!!
