Does my dog HAVE to know dog obedience to be part of the class?

In order to run a safe and enjoyable fitness class for everyone, basic dog obedience is recommended.  If you know proper ways to instruct your dog to do commands, they are much more likely to listen.  We do not want participants scolding their dogs and/or punishing them in class for not obeying their commands.  We work with an on-site dog trainer who will meet with you in a group setting or a one-on-one meeting and work on the commands that are recommended for the class.  Sometimes it only takes one meeting to head you in the right direction.

I understand how the dogs can do cardio, but what about the other parts of the workout?

The dogs are put into a stay during the one-minute strength and balance intervals BUT we try to incorporate a pet or some other interaction with them while they are resting.    Your dog is just happy to be with you, instead of at home while you are at the gym!

I can’t make it at the times provided, are there any other class times?

Since the “Leash Your Fitness” class is a new concept, we have to experiment with class times.  We would be happy to add more times as the community shows interest.  Please contact us with what times would work best for you.

Is the dog obedience class required?

No the dog obedience is not required, but is however recommended for a  better behaved dog and a more effective workout. The dog obedience is designed to teach you training techniques for faster results, allowing you to maximize your time spent in the Intensive Interval class.

How old does my dog have to be to come to class?

Your dog must be at least 6 months old to participate and have all of the required vaccinations:  rabies, bordatella and distemper

Why should I pay to come to a class, when I can walk my dog for free?

Well, not many people are going to put themselves through an organized non-stop hour workout that incorporates strength, balance, cardio, yoga and dog obedience.  Each class is lead by professionals who will make sure you push yourself so that you and your dog get a safe an effective workout.

Does my dog have to be leashed during the class?

Yes, we have to keep control of all dogs during the entire class.  That is why it is called  “LEASH Your Fitness”

My dog barks at other dogs when on a leash, is that going to be a problem?

It is very common for dogs to be “protective” when on a leash and other dogs are around.  If you come a little early for class and allow your dog to run leash free with the other dogs, then they are all on equal terms and that usually solves the problem.  If that does not work for you for any reason, you may have to have a meeting with our dog trainer and he can give you suggestions.  There is a local noise ordinance; therefore we cannot allow excessive barking.

Can I bring more than one dog to class?

Sure!! You can bring as many dogs as you want as long as you have  your friends or family sign up for classes to workout with the extra dogs!!  Your friends AND your dogs will love you for it!  Only one dog per person, once you take the class—you will see why!
